1. Eric Athas, now of NPR Digital Services, remembers the night the news broke about Osama bin Laden.

    ericathas:

I never really did a retrospective post on the night Osama Bin Laden was killed. So now I will, one year later.

Almost all of Sunday, May 1, 2011, was a slow news day. Painfully slow. At the time I was a home page editor at The Washington Post working Sunday night duty.

    There were four…

  3. The River of News concept isn’t magical: you get success when you devote some time and energy to your site, and you understand that increasing audience and engagement online increases audience loyalty to your station.
There’s a ton of useful advice in this presentation by Matt Thompson at the Knight Digital Media Center for the Leadership Summit on the Future of Local News and Public Media.

  4. Behold NPR Digital Services' own David Alkire helping to bash bugs during our recent in-house party to identify bugs, quirks and generally unexpected behavior in the alpha version of the new Core Publisher mobile site.

Clearly, Dave is the guy to call if you see a cockroach in the kitchen.

  5. Yes, we have no bananas - but no, we don’t not have bagels!
We’re awash in tasty carbs today, thanks to the generosity of our own Kathleen Grant.
Thanks, Kathleen!

  9. In what’s quickly becoming an NPR Digital Services' tradition, our own Eric Athas recently donned the groom hat as we celebrated his impending nuptials.
And impending they are - as in this Saturday! But, in an amazing display of dedication (or maybe too much champagne), he said he’ll be back at work on Tuesday.
However, there’s no truth to the rumor that he’ll be leading a webinar on editorial best practices at the reception.
Join us in wishing him a hearty “Atta boy!” and many years of wedded bliss.
Congrats, Eric!

  10. Why is our own Rakiesha Chase so happy, you may wonder?
Well, it could be because spring has sprung but, more likely, it’s because she’s helping out with the WBUR pledge drive!
